How many bugs are enough? - Linking invertebrate diversity and biogeochemical functions in post-mining landscapes on North Stradbroke Island

As a part of a larger project with Consolidated Rutile Ltd, the CMLR is examining the role of litter-dwelling invertebrates on nutrient cycling on the pre- and post-disturbance ecosystems on the sand dunes of North Stradbroke Island. Field mesocosms are providing information to:
  • Determine whether invertebrate biodiversity affects the flux of resources through the ecosystems
  • Determine if there is a critical level of invertebrate biodiversity in rehabilitating ecosystems
