Reservoirs for wildlife? - Aquatic invertebrates in final voids at the Moura coal mine

The CMLR, in association with Griffith University, assessed the richness and abundance of aquatic invertebrates in voids at Moura coal mine.

The primary objectives of the research were to assess the biological status of final void water bodies at Moura and to identify management options which would improve the quality of pit ponds as habitat for aquatic animals.
Research focused on aquatic invertebrates as indicators and investigated the relationship of invertebrate assemblages with pit age, pH and salinity.
