Vegetating the dumps

Rehabilitation of waste rock dumps at Kidston Gold Mine

Together with the environmental staff at Kidston Gold Mines Ltd, the CMLR has established a native vegetation community on the surface of a capped waste dump. A section of the dump has included trials that:

  • Screen a range of eucalypts and acacias for their suitability to the substrate
  • Field test several native grasses alone and in combination with tree and shrub species
  • Investigate fertiliser requirements of native species
