Long term vegetation development - Long term vegetation development following heavy mineral sand mining at Eneabba

Few projects have looked at long term vegetation development patterns after mining by monitoring of the same plots. The mineral sands mine at Eneabba is re-establishing the extremely diverse kwongan or shrub/heath vegetation. An area of the rehabilitation has now been monitored for 11 years with survival and mortality of individual seedlings being recorded. This study has:
  • Provided detailed information on the long term dynamics of rehabilitated kwongan vegetation where the initial characteristics of the site are precisely known.
  • Indicated what is likely to happen on the rehabilitation areas generally and the potential impacts of future disturbances.
